I’m raising this plant from a tissue culture. It has been in a closed container and under grow light since it arrived. Yesterday I noticed a fuzzy root. Please advise as I am unable to post a photo. T/Y -Spencer

Hi Spencer. a “fuzzy” root on a tissue-culture plant is often normal root hairs, especially if the fuzz is only on the root itself and the plant still looks healthy. Root hairs can look like tiny white fuzz and are a good sign that the root is actively growing.

I would not open the container yet unless you see signs of contamination, such as fuzzy growth spreading across the medium/container, gray/green/black mold, slime, bad smell, or the plant starting to collapse.

For now: keep it sealed, under gentle grow light, away from heat, and watch it for a few days. If the fuzz stays limited to the root, it is probably fine. If it spreads like cotton/webbing over the medium, that is more likely mold or contamination, and the safest move is to isolate it and contact the seller/lab for advice.

Once it has stronger roots and leaves, you can begin acclimating it very gradually instead of opening it suddenly.
