My monstera is leaning toward the window and starting to take over the corner. I want bigger leaves eventually, but mostly I want it to stop looking like it is trying to crawl away.
I see people using moss poles, cedar planks, bamboo stakes, and those bendy coir poles. Do aerial roots need to grow into moist moss for the plant to size up, or is physical support enough?

Physical support helps the plant climb and keeps it organized. Moist moss can help aerial roots attach, but only if you actually keep it moist. A dry moss pole is mostly a fuzzy stake.

I like planks for monstera because they are sturdy and easy. Tie the main stem, not the leaf petioles. Let the petioles move toward light on their own.

Coir poles sold in stores are usually too skinny and too dry to do much besides support. That is fine if support is your goal. Just know what you are buying.

Rotate slowly if you want a more balanced shape, but do not spin it constantly. The plant will keep reorienting and look confused for a while.

For bigger leaves, light matters a lot. A pole cannot replace insufficient light. Give it support and good light, then be patient.

Use soft plant tape or velcro ties. I used twine once and it dug into the stem as the plant grew. Not my proudest plant moment.
